Rated national and international players will compete in the Surya Trophy, All India FIDE Open Rated Chess Tournament to be held in Vadodara from 27 December to 1st January 2023. The main aim is to give platform to the rising players of the city and development of Chess.
The tournament will be organized by Divyam Foundation under the aegis of All India Chess Federation and Gujarat State Chess Federation. International players from USA, Uganda will also be participating in the competition. Two International Masters Gusain Hemal (Haryana) and Rahul Sangma (Railway) confirmed their participation and the organizers are expected many other top Rated players to follow. More than 200 players will be expected to participate and a total Prize Money of Rs. 5,00,000 (5Lakhs) will be awarded to the players.
“The FIDE rated tournament is going to organize after a gap of three years due to Corona and gives a wonderful platform to the players specially the upcoming local players namely Ahaan Maheshwari, Jiaan Gondalia, Ashita Jain, Aditya Patel and more. Development of chess in the city is our prime motto,” said Prithvi Raj, FIDE Arbiter and Trainer (FIDE: World Chess Federation).
It’s an open tournament and total 10 games will be played in six days. Six blind and one divyang player will also be playing in the tournament and hence making it exciting for the players and game enthusiasts. Parthiv Agrawal from Divyam Foundation and Mukund Bhatt, Secretary Chess Association Vadodara remains present there to share the details of the tournament.
